Corn silk "tea" is available! Why the quotes over "tea?" Because it's really just corn silk, and you make the tea.
Three questions and answers below, but feel free to ask more!
1. Why in the world would I make a tea out of this? Because of all of the many health benefits God gave us in a simple form! This is great for urinary tract health (UTI's, bladder infections, etc.), bladder and prostate support, it has anti-inflammatory effects, and it's helpful for digestive health. Personally I've used it for kidney stones (it is a diuretic) and UTI's.
Other benefits (that also require a caution) are that it potentially lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It may improve overall cardiovascular health by reducing LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol. It could also lower blood sugar levels, making it beneficial for diabetes management, and helps prevent spikes in blood sugar by slowing the absorption of starchy foods.
2. I just made corn on the cob last night so couldn't I just use those tassels? YES! You absolutely can! The caution is to be sure your corn is GMO-free and hasn't been sprayed with any pesticides because that can just agitate and make things worse in your gut and be counter-productive. They need to completely air dried (not in the sun) and have no green left so they don't mold. With that said, these corn silk tassels are GMO-free and have never been sprayed with pesticides! If you don't want to take up your counter space or have corn silk laying around, you can get it here. At this point, my family is attune to me dehydrating herbs everywhere and they don't complain.
3. Does it taste like corn? In a way, yes. It's a little sweet, with a little sweet corn flavor. I personally have made a tea out of this by itself, but my preferred method is to add other flavors with it for a better taste (sometimes an elderberry/echinacea or ginger/orange). Any way you choose is beneficial with the corn silk in there!
To make this tea, use one tablespoon of corn silk per cup of tea. Steep for 15 minutes using hot (not boiling) water. This can be added to other tea blends for flavor. Sweeten with raw honey for best results. It's great to have on hand when you need it!
1 oz. bag (trust us, 1 oz is more than you think in corn silk world)
